Education
Lone Twin, with support from Brighton University and funded by Arts
Council England, have created two new workshop experiences that openly
invite participants into the heart of our artistic practice.
Lone Twin Theatre workshop
This workshop, given by members of the company, explores
the various approaches to narrative employed in the making of Alice
Bell and Daniel Hit By A Train; two of an intended trilogy
of works foregrounding ideas of storytelling and biography. The company's
internationally celebrated practice operates through an expansive
relationship to working with narrative, one that moves away from ideas
of character and plot and towards narrative elements presented in
a procedural sense, as a score to speech and movement and as formal
performance activity; the telling of a story by a gathered ensemble
of performers to a gathered audience. Aimed at participants who have
seen either or both Alice Bell and Daniel Hit By A Train,
this workshop is suitable for those studying, or those with an interest
in, Theatre, Contemporary Performance, Live Art and other contemporary
visual practices.
Lone Twin mentoring workshop
This workshop is a more tailored option whereby Lone Twin's
artistic directors Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters provide dramaturgical
support to those - students or artists - already engaged in making
work. The workshop intends to be of a non-threatening, accessible
format whereby participants will be surprised and empowered by their
own abilities to engage, not only with our work but also with performance
in its broader capacity. It might attract those with an ongoing investigation
into performance and public space but also those wishing to approach
new areas in their artistic practice. Exact format can be tailored
to context, but this workshop does necessitate participants attending
with some finished material available.
